KISS costumes- pictures of creation

KISS Costumes -part 4-Gene and Paul

This is a total BLAST! I've been working on 2 costumes today-Gene Simmons for the 3year old girl, and Paul Stanley for the 11 year old girl.
The hardest part of making these costumes has been pulling myself away from the sewing machine to eat!

I met the family last night to go over the costume sketches-
I think they were just as excited as I was!
My older brothers dressed up like KISS for Halloween (back in the late 70's) my Aunt painted their faces to perfection! I hope i can do the same!-

well..Ive noted that i need at least 1,000 sequins, bedazzles, and rhinestones for one costume. ...I'm in the land of glitz and glimmer!! I can't wait to order sequins!!!!

Creating a Kiss Costume....( long blog event)

The challenge came in about an hour ago. Create a KISS costume for a family of 4.

I've never been so excited about a costume before!
so far I have costume ideas, and i'm about to start gathering my materials.

Cleaning to Painting WEEN

This Huge canvas was screaming my name this weekend! I've been putting off painting something so big because there is no room in this tiny apartment. I had a good clean out of my studio- made room for the giant easel. I found tons of old paint,and some really hard brushes in the back of a drawer. The canvas was an old "dud"(a painting that didn't work out so well). A perfect mix!! So began... moving things, setting up, getting water,towels, beer, just the right album for the needle,lighting,then...I took a seat.

I didn't know what to paint, so i started with the color and let the music move me.
Music of choice was Chocolate and Cheese by WEEN. Since i was listing to an LP- every few songs i had to get up and flip the record. It broke my concentration every time, so the painting has a few different lives in it.

At the end of the weekend I had a beautiful base for a painting.
Looking forward to it's next layers!

This week I will be hosting Princess Camp at Parteaz located 1860 Springfield Ave, Maplewood.
Princess Camp is the most magical and creative camp the area has to offer!! I know because I created the games and crafts!! I’ve been busy making a wishing well, and coming up with “princess –like” crafts. I have to say... this was the most girlie -crafting i’ve done in a while.
For the past week, I’ve been up to my ears in pink tool. I’ve cut 25 tiny, tiny little crowns out of gold sequin pleather and crocheted little pink circles . My hands haven’t stopped cutting or gluing for days!
One of the crafts is called “Princess Portrait”
The kids will make a collage with various materials.
You will need felt, ribbon, beads, yarn, lace and markers, pre-cut matte and matching backing
Paper,
The face and neck, pre-cut felt so that it looks like a head and shoulders. Glue on to paper
Pre cut any “princess colour” felt into a rectangle with the width and length to cover from her neck to the bottom of the paper. Cut out a scoop for around her neck.. Glue on.
String a few beads onto the ribbon. Punch holes around her neck so you can tie the ribbon behind the picture.
Cut lace to the width of the felt. (Add as much as you like)and glue on top of the felt dress.
Cut yarn for hair and glue on. Draw on face
And the final touch- glue on crown
With a hot glue gun- glue matte, picture to backing.

It's SEW Crafty is a new and exciting way to teach kids how to make sewing crafts! Almost all of the crafts are original ideas by our Crafty Staff!!!

We have a variety  of crafts for kids ages 3 and up! 

It's SEW Crafty provides  adorable bright, colorful sewing machines. The machines are simple and easy to use! All materials provided except the recycle classes. Recycling classes kids will  need to bring in clothes to recycle into something new!

We know how hard it is to learn to sew, the Crafty Staff pride ourselves on our patience and teaching of our crafts. We believe that it doesn't matter how you get there..as long as you get there. We encourage the kids to take a break when the get frustrated or overwhelmed. Learning to sew can be a challenge for anyone, but with the right encouragement and a creative environment anyone can learn

New** Fabric House

Ever since I was a kid I drew this picture. just a simple house with a chimney, 2 windows, a door and knob. I always have put the over sized tree to the right and the short squatty car to the left. 2 clouds..no more no less...and the sun always has to be big and radiant. 

I've made this particular piece out of fabric. I tried to stay in the pink/red family just to add a twist.

Whips the Robot

I don't think Whips is done yet..but he was too cute to just leave on the easel, I had to share!!!

Whips is a bit of a jerk. He's known in Robotwood as the big mouth. He tends to voice his opinion even when no one asks for it. 

Whips will be getting a cage for his mouth soon... The rest of Robotwood is thankful 

I Love the Garden State

I made this collage during lat years farmers market. 

 I had so much fun being an art vendor at the Maplewood farmer's market, that I had to make a collage that brought it all together. 

This is one of my most favorite collages, it's bright, and full of life..and after this snowy winter,  I'm ready for GREEN GARDENS!

Little Watecolor Waterfall..my old friend

Ahh..my old friend...I remember when I painted this. I was living on Long Beach Island. I love the beach, but i missed hiking in the woods and swimming in waterfalls. I really missed the cool breeze that you can only feel deep in the forest.

So as I sat on the beach with my watercolors and paint brushes, I painted where I really wanted to be.

Finally posting again........Ween's Pure Guava

I've been snowed in for the last 3 days- I figured it was a good time to get a bit more organized with my art. I started cleaning out the art closet- every folder, portfolio, and box was gone through. I found so AWESOME old drawings,paintings, -even stuff that wasn't mine! I found a whole cachet of my brother's art work- I can't wait to frame it all and get it up on my walls!!! I came across this old one that I did..I'm not even sure what the medium is or was... but I do remember that I worked on this listening to WEEN's Pure Guava.
