Maplewoodstock is a two day music and art festival in Maplewood New Jersey. I have been the vendor coordinator for the past 8 years. Saturday morning is the hardest day of my entire year, trying to get all 120 vendors in their place with no argument is quite a challenge, it takes focus and patience.
This year a local photographer and friend, Joy Yagid, decided to capture my craziness and make me the subject of her 52 faces blog- check it out

Knitting, Crochet, and Felting
Knitting, Crochet, Felting
ages 7 and up
Each child will receive their own knitting needles to learn to knit. Using colorful yarn kids will create small and simple projects while learning knitting and purling.Crochet is a lot like knitting but with just one hook. I will show the students that using different sized hooks and techniques produce different looks. I have many books and magazines for the students to explore. We will be making "book worms," a simple crocheted bookmark that I learned to make in fourth grade with my homeroom teacher.(she's STILL making bookworms with her classes!) Felting is a fun and slightly messy way to use wool. Wool gets dipped into water and a drop of dish soap gets added, students then manipulate the wet wool to shape it into a flat piece or a into bowl shape. the flat pieces can be cut and sewn together to make all sorts of other crafts, or pieces of beautiful art work

Weaving, Macrame
Weaving, Macrame
ages 7 and up
This program will teach children how to make their own looms, while exploring funky and unique shaped ones. Traditional weaving yarn will be provided, as well as surprising textures and found objects. As the children will learn weaving doesn’t always use a loom, some objects can be woven together just with our hands like baskets and hats. Macrame is a form of textile-making using knotting rather than weaving or knitting. Using dowels and colorful yarn or string I will help the children to knot their strings together to make, an owl, key chains, or belts.
